I am not an arsenal fan per se but I am subbed to this community because it is the only football community active here on lemmy. c/soccer is just so dead. I appreciate you guys for being able to actually create a functioning community here
Cheers. Yes, there aren’t too many functional club communities here. From what I’ve briefly seen, the Nottingham Forest one is active (kudos to them). But I’m not too familiar with any other active ones (though there probably are some others).
It’s rough to start a new community. You have to reach a critical mass of engaged regular users (I think at least a dozen or so), and have some of them dedicated to posting quality content regularly (credit to Astrealix and a few others here for that).
Then if the community continues to grow, you have to traverse a while bunch of new migration challenges to balance it community engagement with content quality.
I hope more club-based communities flourish on Lemmy. Because rivalries make things interesting, and other communities sometimes offer interesting new perspectives.
Just checked, Forest’s is just a bot. It’s just a ghost.

Liverpool is the other one I know of that has more than like, one person at most.
oh pish posh I’ve done nothing, you all are the reason this place exists and continues to exist. We need more though. Imma go check out the Forest one, didn’t realise it was!
I’d say we’re kinda like ouroboros then. I feel like you help create a consistent structure that provides a platform for the community to flourish.
I saw Bolton Wanderers just made one, hopefully people will join that but I doubt there’s enough people to be honest.

No that has got like only 2 people active. I used to try to jolt the Bayern community into life but after receiving no traction on several posts in a row I just stopped trying. I see the Liverpool community go towards the same path. Hopefully c/Liverpool’s situation improves in the future.
You’re a Bayern fan then? I do think if there’s clubs that can do it it’s gotta be us / Liverpool / Manchester United with the massive extremely online Anglophone fanbases lol.
Yeah I am Bayern fan but I am hoping that arsenal wins the league which I is why I am here.
The problem is there is no German speaking community for Bayern Munich either. It is just that people from the fcbayern subreddit never moved to lemmy - the height of irony that fanbases who have fought for the right to have control over the club are sticking with a platform over which they have no control
tbf there’s not much control here either, it’s just that this platform isn’t actively doing a bunch of shitty exploitative stuff lol.

Oh, just checked, c/reddevils has got a few people. Not nearly as sizeable as us I think but it’s got activity.
