ive been running storage devices (nas) since the late 90s… for media server its been MythTV… then later SageTV (google murdered) then XMBC and now its kodi+jellyfin.

initially it was a lot of ripping physical media… it was awesome when netflix came up with the 'we’ll send you 7 disks at a time (and then 5 and then 3), i was returning them within hours of receipt. nowadays i have a seedbox/central torrenting server so the kids can help.

i still have MP3s i downloaded on the OG napster.

Remember Kazaa? That’s where I learnt about different codec’s and the importance of virus checking files before running them, well until Kazaa++ came out and did it for you.

Well shit, you just unlocked a memory I haven’t touched in decades!.. Damn I miss the old p2p days, where you had to earn that mp3 of Destiny’s Child Bootylicious with a weird audio artifact mid way through!

Lol 20 years later I still have an album where my favorite track is only 98% complete because my dialup connection dropped when I was downloading it from Kazaa, and I just said eh, good enough.

yes! this is me! a few songs have a glitch that, after 20+ years is absolutely ingrained in my brain.

it would be trivial to replace, but i just dont care enough to do it
