At this point they can only be waiting for a truly 3D immersive experience for their 3rd iteration.

Or just never. I mean, Valve is a private company, they can do whatever the fuck they like. Gabe could run the business into the ground if he so chose.

Compared to publicly stock traded companies, I much prefer this.

They’re basically the Nintendo of PC gaming, except Nintendo has much more game development studios under them. I wonder if the same guys working on the Steam store ever work on the games too? If not, do they have specific employees for game development, and what have they been doing?

Nintendo is still publicly traded though, as such those running the business have a legal obligation to act in the interests of the shareholders (ie towards profit).

Valve is also a publicly traded company as well. I trade CSGO skins all the time for pennies on the dollar!

In the CSGO news machine before CS2 got unveiled it was revealed that Valve employees can usually just choose to work on whatever projects they want to. CSGO had a really small regular team until it became all hands on deck for CS2 development. They’re really just vibing. But hey I’d rather take them making a random surprise masterpiece every 10 years now than pumping out yearly garbage like other AAA companies.

Can assume enough that prior to CS2, most of their teams were working on the Steam Deck, and HL:A prior to that.

Makes sense, valve can’t count to 3
