Wingspan and I really liked it! I didn’t win, but I feel like I’ll do a lot better next time.
Wingspan is a lovely game.
I tried Mariposas this month for the first time too (The monarch butterfly game, also by Elizabeth Hargrave). It has a really nice theme with challenging gameplay. Would play it again for sure.

Played Quacks of Quelinburg with all of my family. It’s 4 player so we had to play as teams. Great fun and easy to pick up. Lots of strategies to explore. Reminds me a little of Seven Wonders in that way.
Quacks is lots of fun and has amazing art.
The herbs expansion is a great addition too.
I heard the buzz about Quacks for months, was surprised that it is not about ducks the first time I played. : -)
I tried Flamme Rouge for the first time. It was in a 4P, all others were playing their first game as well.
It is a ~1930s European bicycle racing game, where you simultaneously reveal a distance card for each of your 2 riders, and can then slipstream up to other riders who are 1 space ahead. Good theme, fun game-mechanic and nail biting finishes.
I would definitely play this again.

I got the game roots as a present. I tried to play it the rules didnt explain it to well. So I will be trying it again soon after watching a video on it
Yeah root is pretty full on. Recently downloaded it for the iPad and the learning curve is quite steep! Still getting to grips with it

I got a bunch of board games for Christmas, and so far I’ve gotten to play:
- Jaipur - Nice little 2 player game about becoming the richest trader in the market - this one had very simple rules, and felt competitive without feeling too “mean” - both games we played were close. The “camel” system definitely keeps things interesting.
- Hues and Cues - A very simple game - you are simply trying to give word clues to get people to guess the exact color on the board - my family definitely had some fun, but we also unanimously agreed to play it only to 25 points - the board goes to 100 which would absolutely overstay its welcome. There were also issues with indoor lighting / shadows causing colors to appear different to different people.
- Coup - This one is a classic and I was so excited to play it - basically a bluffing / assassination game. My family didn’t have too much trouble learning it, though we definitely did not play optimally. It’ll be interesting to see how I feel about different player sizes - we played with the maximum player count (6), which for better and worse meant that in time you could pretty confidently learn what was in the entire draw pile. I’m definitely interested in picking up the “Reformation” expansion - I think the new card is really interesting, and the entire faction system could really shake things up for experienced groups - and it’s cool that you can add one or the other or neither, and the game still works.

We recently got Hues and Cues too. It is the only one I haven’t tried out of the three.

Jaipur is probably my favourite 2 player game! It really is a nice back and forward without being to nasty. I gave a copy away for xmas too.
Do you have any other 2 player recommendations? I’m always looking for ones me and the wife can play together.

I don’t mind competitive, but I think she generally enjoys coop. Simpler is probably better as well.

Sky Team. Lots of fun for 2 players who want to feel anxious together. Played 11 times already. Highly recommended.

What a great theme and concept.
Looks to be as stressful as Space Hulk: Death Angel, although instead of dealing with a waterfall of genestealers, it is the minute inputs needed to get a plane onto the ground safely.

For about a year I had my eyes on Android Netrunner. I love the cyberpunk setting and dystopian future. I know it is discontinued. I heard about Null signal games, I read diving into the web implementation of Jinteki.net is a pain. Long story short I got the original FFG Core box for Xmas. The last days I read rules, found a very welcoming Discord Server, got the Game and Jinteki.net explained by a really cool person and I love everything about it. The idea to keep this game alive and make it accessible and welcoming to everyone I just love. Especially because this universe is all about Corps and hacking them. And don’t get scared by the Website Jinteki. I have seen worse on BGA. Once the European shop opens again I’ll be the first to order a Gateway box. I thought I can never get into games like MTG but here I am (please send help, did buy four books already to dive into the Cyberpunk universe)
I hope one of your four cyberpunk books was Snowcrash ; -) (Should still be as good as 25yrs ago)
I have the original FFG Netrunner box too, to use the counters. The Netrunner/Null Signal mechanic really nails the cat&mouse of the corp/runner interactions.
Highly recommended to any other boardgamers to try.

two games today
Champions of Midgar: would definitely play it again, competitive worker placement about Vikings hunting monsters.
Spirit Island: would also play it again. cooperative island spirits repel invaders. bit of a high early learning curve but really fun once you get the hang of it.
I’ve never heard or tried Champions of Midgar, it looks really nice too. I will jump to play any Viking themed game though : -)
I love Spirit Island’s take on colonisation games. My first game was mostly learning, but I agree, it is an excellent coop.
Champions becomes even better with the Valhalla expansion. The other one is supposed to be good too, but I haven’t tried it. Valhalla is considered essential by many.

I’ve had Skull King and Cover Your Assets for about two years and never played them. Got them for free at GAMA 22 and just have too many fillers already. But brought them on a week long vacation and found out that both are quite fun, I prefer Skull King because it reminds me of old trick taking games I played as a kid. Cover Your Assets was fun for the kids but mostly luck based. Definitely gonna put Skull King into the filler game rotation!
Nine hours of Twilight Imperium, and I hate myself for it.
Really though, it’s a lot of fun if you can get some friends to the table for the better part of a day.
Partner and I played Sail. We cleared the learning scenario but failed 3 attempts at Scenario 1. Will be trying it again soon.
We’ve also played 2 other new to us games.
Whirling Witchcraft - This game was so much fun, nothing like screwing your neighbour’s over to win the game. It’s sub-30 min plays are also a huge positive.
Zoo Vadis - I’m not a big fan of negotiation in games but I liked this one. Easy to learn, easy to teach flows quite well and not too long either. Hope to play this more.
Beyond the Sun. Very good game. Easy to learn, plays pretty quickly, and has lots of depth and interaction (more interaction with more players). It really scratches the Euro itch without having to go full Rosenberg.
