The story here is really that they released the information on his case, and it had been withheld because he cooperated on giving information on other participants.

Turning state’s evidence often brings leniency, which doesn’t trouble me. It doesn’t often bring secrecy, which does.

From the AP’s coverage, which is probably what I should’ve linked:

… The documents were unsealed on Wednesday after a coalition of news outlets, including The Associated Press, moved to publicly release records in his case. The documents, however, were then removed from the court docket after lawyers said they objected to the release of all of the documents and wanted the court to post only blacked-out versions.

It doesn’t say whose lawyers want to cover it up, but it is presumably to protect him from retaliation. The headline seems to imply the government wanted to cover it up for some unknown or nefarious reason.

I can sorta see redacting the name to protect him from retaliation, but only sorta. Anyone prosecuting Trump gets constant death threats, but none of them have been killed yet. Seems like part of the assumed risk when ██████████ hangs out with the imbecile crowd.

The official secrecy bothers me more than the hassles ██████████ might face, but then again, I’m well-known as a prick. :)

Unfortunately for this guy, this level of crime and cooperation doesn’t qualify for federal witness protection, I’d assume. It is something we want to encourage, though, and we have seen anyone opposing this movement at all levels be threatened with retaliation. They did reveal his name, crime and sentence, and I don’t know what else the public needs to know.
