Johnny Mnemonic is a science fiction short story by William Gibson that was first published in 1981. The internet was invented in 1983.
Gibson is talking about bandwidth in the frame of radio waves. Think of it as tuning a radio to get a clearer signal with less interference.
I kinda doubt that line was originally written by Gibson, but then again, the story the movie is based off of is like the only thing I haven’t read by Gibson. For all I know, all the extremely lame dialogue is actually 1:1 with it 🤷🏻♂️
