TLDR: Sony would break unlicensed third party accessories connections on purpose with system updates.

That might not be so bad and well within their right you may say, but Sony also would ignore requests from these third-party companies to use licenses for their products, essentially creating a monopoly on licensed controllers.

The combination of the two things is what led to the fine as being anti-competitive and anti-consumer.

I may not fucking say that at all. Them doing such a thing is asinine and they should be fined for such behaviour.

I mostly agree with you people should be fine to use the accessory they want, and there’s even an argument for accessibility reasons.

However, there are also third party accessories that exist mostly to allow people to cheat in online games, allowing combos and inputs that you couldn’t normally access with a first party device.

The area is not as black and white as you’d like to think.

Well I guess a pc players perspective is quite different then. A macro keyboard is nothing weird over here, for instance.

You still get banned in a lot of games for this on pc though.

I guess. I don’t personally play many of them but tbh I think banning in game for offences is more reasonable than outright not allowing third party accessories unless they’re personally sanctioned by Sony.

It is within the rights of Sony to disable compatibility with any third party device at any time for any reason, especially if they have a contract. But just because it is within their right doesn’t make it less scummy.

A fine is a business expense to a organization like Sony.

I had no idea they were doing this but it doesn’t much surprise me. My PS4 will be my last Sony purchase because honestly the system gets progressively worse with every update. I can no longer navigate between screens or in apps without experiencing massive lag. I understand it’s not supposed to last forever but the damn thing is near unusable at this point whereas my PS2 is still running.

Sounds like it’s gotten dusty inside or your hard drive is very close to full, or both.

      That’s not normal behavior.
