There was no state flag for Minnesota prior to and during the U.S. Civil War. The original version was from the late 1800s, decades after the Civil War and it was the Great Seal on a white flag.
It gotten to the point that the GOP is just against everything and just lies about the reasons why. We are making a new flag in the state which could be a great method to unify the state in a non-partisan faction. But some people prefer us divided over everything instead of united over 1 thing.
I have never really seen any places besides government builds with the old state flag in my entire life. I have seen docks and boats with the US Flag, multiple other countries flags and every big 10 college flag (Even Wisconsin). Lets not claim that we loved the old flag in any way.

This has been true since I was first eligible to vote in the late 90s.
They cried when Lake Bde Maka Ska was reverted to its original Dakota name, citing “heritage.” Whose heritage, exactly? Apparently a South Carolina slave owner is more integral to our state’s history than the people who gave it its name.
Yeah no offense but your old state flag sucked. A good state flag goes on a lot (Alaska), as do weird (Ohio) and terrible (Maryland) ones. It’s not my preferred variant of the new one you picked, but it looks good and is distinctive, and most importantly isn’t your seal.
The old state flag was terrible. It needed to be changed
I miss the green stripe from the original design of the new flag.
Tacking one on the end would help the light blue not blend into the sky.
Unnecessary word there. Cross out Minnesota.
That new flag is fuckin crisp
