I’ve used https://reddit.com/r/cptsd as a support group for awhile. It never felt right to post such sensitive discussions onto a platform controlled by a tech company trying to monetize its content, so I was really happy when things like Lemmy began taking off. In my opinion, support communities belong in user-owned spaces like this.

I use Beehaw as a provider, and I thought it might be a good place to host a CPTSD community because of Beehaw’s rules and ethos. I had a look at what’s existing, and this is the closest one I could find. There’s [email protected] (am I referring to that correctly?), but it’s dead.

Is anyone aware of a good CPTSD community, or would there be interest/support in creating one on Beehaw?

Edit: I’ve inquired to see how this works: https://beehaw.org/post/554142

Start posting, “if you build it, they will come.” There are already several people interested in a CPTSD community right here in this thread, it just takes one to break the ice.

I’m building up an abandoned community from a couple years ago - so far it’s just me, shouting into the void. And that’s ok! When I started there were 73 instances on Lemmy, now there are 10x that many - some of those new people are bound to find our little outposts eventually. But if they look in and see no posts, they will pass on by.

Start posting! Start with general things like links to articles or videos or resources. It will work! :)

I don’t know where the issue is, but I also can’t seem to subscribe to any lemmy.ml communities. I think maybe that instance is overloaded.

Definitely interested, if beehaw is willing to open a new community while also adjusting to the influx.

Shit, I’ll moderate it if it will help it happen. I’m still not up to speed with lemmy, but the r/cptsd community is too damn important to not migrate (I lurked there, but it has pulled me through some very bad times)

If beehaw isn’t ready for new communities yet, we can find a spot somewhere, I’m sure. Or start using the one on lemmy.ml (or wherever it is)

Not afaik but we should absolutely start one. Used to love r/cptsd. Nice to feel understood for once. it on beehaw sounds like probably the best idea

I think it would be awesome to start one. I haven’t been diagnosed with CPTSD quite yet but the term keeps coming up with my doctors and I think it to be an applicable one for me.

That is one place that should definitely be somewhere on lemmy. But sadly I don’t have any ideas on what to do.

I miss CPTSDFreeze most out of the various cptsd subreddits. It was a really kind community that focused on recovery, but it shut down before the blackout started.

I feel weird about whole thing. There I definitely found resources to help me but u/sircheesealot had weird behaviours. I don’t blame him though. Life’s a bitch.

I was a lurker that popped into that subreddit occasionally, so I’m not sure what behaviors you mean in particular. It came as a surprise when I learned about his living circumstances. Hope he’s doing well.

I’d be interested in one, too, provided we’re careful not to let it become like some support subreddits did where people in pain ended up venting to each other in circles, nobody knowing how to help, and all just feeling worse (I don’t think r/cptsd in particular had gotten this way, though. I just mention it as a potential risk to watch out for, for the neurodivergence hive too maybe.)

Anyway, I think CPTSD posts should be welcomed here in the meantime, imo.

    I don’t think there’s one.
