I’m actually shocked this game ended up being good, I was convinced it would be a meme cashgrab.

No saying it isn’t. There are a lot of people, gamers especially, who will throw money at a meme pit.

But maybe it’s good. I haven’t played it

I bought it about 6 hours ago and am only taking a break cuz I was hungry and needed to use the restroom. Then I’ll probably play some more until I get too sleepy.

I’m having a blast with the game. It feels like a mix between Pokémon and Valheim.

No real bugs encountered so far. The only bug I’ve experienced since I’ve started playing is that respawning at my base places me inside some vertical terrain, and that’s partially my fault for needing to place objects so close to the walls that they’re practically clipping.

I jokingly said it feels like Breath of the Pokemon: Survival Evolved.

That’s not a complaint, to be clear, they’re just very clearly taking some cues from other games.

I didn’t like Breath of the Wild much, and Ark got annoying quickly, so I probably wouldn’t like this game. However, I do like Pokemon, so something new and more challenging related to Pokemon is certainly welcome.

Maybe I’ll get it, IDK, I’ll wait a bit to see how they grow.

To be clear, the Breath Of The Wild aspects are pretty minor. It plays little jingles when you find new landmarks that are very BotW-esque, you can get a glider, the UI is similar sometimes, and it has a climbing system that I never use. It’s clearly an inspiration, but it’s mostly not gameplay features.

It’s a lot more similar to Ark in terms of the base building/progression. The combat is it’s own thing- nothing springs to mind as a clear comparison.

But yeah, fair. Nothing lost by waiting and seeing where it goes.

That’s good to hear. If it’s basically Ark but I can shoot Pokemon, I’ll probably find it fun. But yeah, I’ll hold out for a couple months to see where it goes.

Some console versions have a player max of 4 per server, so it seems to be single player dominant currently

I feel like this is attempted trolling/rage baiting.

Why do you think there is a lack of fun games these days? Would you say things are “too woke”? It seems like there’s no shortage of “fun games” both in development and released in the last year. Why do you think there are no fun games, you’re happy to announce your theory, I’d like to hear it backed up.

My theory is you’re jaded or cynical, or just rage baiting.

I mean, considering the state of the industry, while yes, its an overly jaded and cynical take, I can absolutely see where its coming from. We’ve had repeated cases of games launching unfinished, only getting more common and more accepted, you’ve got increasingly greedy companies happy ruining perfectly good games to try and squeeze out more money like in Overwatch 2, even single player games aimed at kids are full of them. I was trying out Lego 2K Drive, hoping it would be a nostalgic return to the Lego Racing games, but its chock full of microtransactions, with even common parts like the 1x2 grill available in basically Lego set featuring a vehicle only available in a store, with rotating stock to cause FOMO.

While yes, good games do still exist, accusing someone of being a troll for getting jaded witnessing the increasing prevalence and success of these practice is completely uncalled for.

Edit: Quick correction: the 1x2 grill was eventually added to the third battlepass. Doesn’t change the fact that a huge part of the content is locked behind scummy microtransactions. Also found out that, you can’t name your vehicles without an internet connection.

There have also been some pretty hyped games that ended up being disappointing. For example:

        • Starfield
        • Modern Warfare 3
        • Cities Skylines 2
        • Gollum
        • Overwatch 2
        • Payday 3

And that’s just the past year.

There were also plenty of fun games as well. But OP isn’t talking about those, they’re merely pointing out that this seems like a fun game, which contrasts with the anticipated, but poorly executed games from the past year.

Very glad this is on GP. I put a couple hours in and found it to be very boring and slow. Very happy to have not spent anything more than time on it.
