Halo actor Pablo Schreiber has doubled-down on the Master Chief helmet off / helmet on debate, insisting it’s impossible to like the show if you don’t like the fact the super soldier takes his helmet off.

Um… yeah? His bastardized version of Master Chief is nothing like the source material. He’s playing something different that borrowed the name. That makes me dislike the show. It’s not the slam-dunk argument he thinks it is.

Reminds me of Netflix’s attitude about “The Witcher”.

I haven’t watched it at all yet, because I heard it was terrible. If I knew nothing else about the show, the fact that Master Chief takes off his helmet would be enough to tell me the creators of the show don’t respect the source material. It would require excellent reviews for me to give the show a chance.

It’s not getting excellent reviews. It’s getting bad reviews. And now the actor involved is saying the critics are right?

Is this really the best PR strategy?

Studios don’t really care about reviews, just popularity. And Halo was (at the time of release) Paramount+ most watched program. Maybe it’s just because of brand recognition that so many people watched the first series, but these people at least seem to think they’ve done, and are doing, the right thing.
