Of all the things, THIS is what’s got them mad at a gacha game? The psychological predisposition that draws this kind of person to these games is exactly what has them feeling like they don’t get enough.

I keep trying to preach to people that what’s important in a game is whether or not you enjoy the task of playing it. If the pursuit for you is the loot after fighting the boss rather than how great the boss fight itself is, you’re in a dopamine trap.

Its a free game that gave players 3 free gacha rolls for an anniversary event. I don’t get why Chinese players think its “not enough” free stuff. You don’t have to buy the game, and the developers don’t have to give you anything for free just for having an account on the anniversary date. Anything they give you for free is generous enough.

Just for reference, Final Fantasy Ever Crisis gave its players:

      New year:

      • Blue Crystal x3,000 (10 premium draws)
      • 5* Wpn. Guaranteed Draw Ticket
      • Draw Ticket x20
      • New Year 1 -Time-Only 5* Guaranteed Free x10
      • draw up to 240 free draws over the campaign (daily x10 Draw), and also Blue Crystal x10,000 in total (30 premium draws and some change)
      • Blue Crystal x1,000 and Draw Ticket x100 from missions.
      • 1 free x10 draw with 4* or higher guaranteed in 10th slot

      And much, much more.

Mihoyo treats its players like trash compared to the rest of the industry. They have every right to be mad.

Thats a good gift, but again the game is free. The developers don’t need to give anyone free stuff in a free game. That’s like complaining that the free computers at a public library aren’t good enough for gaming or something. Thats some wild complaining IMO.

If they hate the company and game so much then why don’t they stop playing it? Some might say “Im done playing,” but we all know that just means “See you in a week/month.”

Gacha games cultivate an inherent expectation of freebies, especially during significant events like anniversaries. Betraying this expectation, as seen here, can easily lead to player frustration and protests. It might seem entitled to an outsider, but for veterans, this expectation stems from the established norms of the genre.

This protest isn’t about quitting the game. Like you said, they don’t hate it. They’re just asking for more fair treatment within the established system.

I used to play Genshin Impact. I dropped the game around the time of the Rosaria Bust Nerf Incident, not because of that incident but because I just wanted to play other games. I recently was going to reinstall the game but changed my mind after seeing it wanted like 175GB of disk space.

I play a lot of gacha games, and I know a lot of them give away free stuff all the time. But expecting free handouts, even complaining about not getting enough free handouts, is just sad. The game is already free, that’s handout enough. If the developers send you an email that just says “Thank you for playing our game,” then that’s more generous than they have to be. I don’t ever expect free handouts from a game. If I like a game I spend money on it, if I dont like it then I don’t play.

“We don’t want to spend money to support the developer, just give us more free stuff while we cost the developer more money by using their servers without paying.” Its hard to feel empathetic in this situation, I have to be real.

Really, the real fight they should be having with is the gacha drop rates. Or the gacha system entirely. But that will probably never happen.

Friend, they run a one of the most profitable gambling apps for children. There’s no need to worry about “supporting the developer”. The rewards in Genshin have always been bad, protesting when they get worse is warranted.

I dropped genshin impact during it’s launch hype because it was so incredibly stingy with it’s free offerings, and the massive power difference between the 5 star and 4 star. Most gacha games are fairly generous with giving out free draws or premium currency. They featured some of the lowest amount of rewards and lowest drop rates of any gacha I’ve played.
