Most downloaded on PS5. Not surprising considering it was the top physical PS5 game by a wide margin.

It’s possible FF16 didn’t beat Monster Hunter World’s PS4+PS5 2023 digital numbers considering it had only a fraction of the physical sales, and MHW has had a good long tail (FF16’s long tail is concerningly bad).

Too bad we don’t have numbers; it’s not even clear if FF16 topped 1 million in Japan, which would be nuts for a mainline FF.

Yep that was an important part, so I’ve updated the title to add PS5.

According to this page the sales count is 414,216, nearly 100k more than Gran Turismo 7 (2022) which sits at second. Monster Hunter World (PS4 -2018) sits at 1,965,890.

As a probably more fair comparison; FFXV has barely topped 1m, and FFVIIR hasn’t reached it yet (both PS4).

I don’t know how accurate these numbers are so take them with a pinch of salt.

Wow FFVII remake has only sold 67k on ps5. I’m curious about the sells of the second remake game, but the ps5 has it very hard on the japanese market.

the ps5 has it very hard on the japanese market.

I’m not sure it does, when you look at this graph its actually very consistent with PS4 sales when the release dates are aligned. Nintendos handhelds destroy the competition as they seem to in almost every market, but static home consoles are still very much dominated by Playstation.

Edit - I’ve just come across this Famitsu article, has hardware sales number for the week and PS5 outsold the Switch - 43,692/57,903 [Switch/PS5]

Japanese physical sales numbers are reliable. All the sites that post them come mostly from the same three sources (Famitsu, Media Create, Dengeki).

At this point, I don’t know if we’ll ever see digital sales numbers in the market.
