I been tempted to buy Battlebit and I know it’s a great game, but I just wanted to know which is the state of the game to this moment.

It still receive updates? Can I find matches easily? How it’s the development?

And, by the way, how is this game compared to Battlefield 2042? I love Battlefield 2042 despite its problem, but something that I simply cannot fight against it’s the fact that the game does not run on Linux because of their anticheat…

Still getting updates, matchmaking is pretty much instant, and dev is still good. I think they’ve slowed down on content since release, but they are still doing balancing, reworks, etc while adding new content and have a roadmap and planned features floating around somewhere iirc. They’ve added new maps, reworked existing maps to make them more even and more fun, added new guns, balance guns when one floats up to be OP but not nerfing them into the ground (except when needed, there was an SMG that was absolutely broken at launch).

I played bf2042 for about 10 minutes before returning it, I have about 300 hours in battlebit. Graphically it’s absolutely nothing special, but gameplay is very smooth, destruction is great, don’t need to worry about lag or fps much because of the graphics so everyone is pretty even regardless of machine.

I do miss jets/planes from battlefield games, but that’s about it tbh

Still play it regularly - community is mostly nice, game runs smooth and devs still support it well

The game has a lot of flaws, and the devs are focused on adding “content” rather than fixing broken/wonky systems. I’m looking at you, vehicle handling and physics, sound design, visual indistinction (try looking at an enemy who happens to be between you and a large number of your teammates to see a clusterfuck of irrelevant IFF indicators obscuring your view of the guy shooting, or try telling an enemy apart from a friendly at any distance greater than say 20 meters without an IFF indicator, which are not always persistent), squad management, spawn mechanics. You have the huge battles and vehicles of BF, combined with the extremly short TTK and gunplay of COD, as well as some “realistic” mechanics you’d find in squad like hard reload, magazine management. A short TTK and the type of gunplay COD engages in works well for that game, because the levels are designed around those factors, the guns, the skills. It doesn’t work here, because it ends up feeling like an arcade and undermining the milsim aspects. The huge battles works OK for this game, but vehicles are broken in too many ways, so transporting between big battles is most commonly done either on foot, despite the distance, or by respawn, because of it. The milsim aspects like hard reloads just serve to interrupt the COD pace they set for themselves. I have also not had the same experience with the community either, I would say most (the vast majority, actually) people are indistinguishable from bots from lack of interaction or communication, and a disturbingly large portion of the minority who are definitely people are aggressively toxic. Also not a fan of the current implementation of the unlock system.

The game does not live up to its promise, and the playercount having diminished extremely since last summer and not recovered (current count is about 16% of release peak at 14k) reflects this.

Edit: Everyone has access to healing now, which is both good and bad.

Good catch! I took the section of the comment about incompatible mechanics from my old steam review, and last summer it was true that you could only heal through medics. Was that out-of-date part the only thing you found to disagree with?

Definitely couldn’t have disagreed with the steadily diminishing player count, I checked that to post it, and you must be experiencing it if you’re still slogging through that game.
