The Biden administration says the facilities need to do more. Home executives say vaccine hesitancy requires a new government message.

Fewer than 4 in 10 nursing home residents have received the latest Covid shot — despite the carnage in the facilities since the disease first swept through in 2020.

The Biden administration and the care industry agree they share responsibility — but that hasn’t stopped them from blaming each other.

Xavier Becerra, the secretary of Health and Human Services, has held two meetings with representatives of the facilities since Dec. 21 to remind them that they must offer residents the shots. But nursing homes say the federal government needs to pay them more to administer the jabs — and Becerra needs to do a better job persuading people to get vaccinated.

Welp that’s all I needed to know. You’d think these vultures would want to keep their customers alive as long as possible.

For the second part I bet if they blocked Fox the hesitation goes away.

COVID could be killing the less profitable residents off, leaving a space for a more profitable replacement?

A shrinking market with less customers, but similar capacity still works against their interests. It’s odd that a for profit system is not correcting to ensure further profits.

Okay? Are we just quoting things that I was replying to?

That’s odd, considering data I’ve seen showed that the vast majority of those over 65 took at least one vaccine.

In the USA, it was like 90% of seniors that got the shot and that only goes up with age. Nursing home residents tend to be older than 65.

Edit: my bad, 95% https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#vaccinations_vacc-people-booster-percent-pop5 and almost all of them got a full initial round.

Sorry, thought it would be obvious. You’re saying it’s odd because you read something somewhere that a lot of people have had at least one vaccine. The headline here is regarding the most recent one.

          Hope that helps clarify.

I get the angle you mean here. If they got at least one vaccine why not more?

Ah, that makes sense. Odd as in “why wouldn’t folks also get the latest one” rather than “odd that this stat doesn’t line up with mine.”

        Thanks for clarifying that!

Yes, it’s a very steep drop off. Virtually all the seniors who got 1 completed their initial series.
