Background info about that party:
-
This is not Orban’s Fidesz party and currently not involved with the country’s government.
-
However: In the 2022 parliamentary election, the party surpassed the 5% threshold to enter parliament, winning 6 seats and forming the second largest faction in the Hungarian Parliament. –https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Homeland_Movement
It’s not Orban’s party but that doesn’t excuse him. He’s been in office for the last 14 years and deliberately cultivated a political climate of aggressive nationalist conservatism fuelled by propaganda about historical greatness and foreign betrayal. He’s the one who has moved Hungary’s Overton window so far to the far right that politicians such as these can get elected.
He’s also made overt references and remarks to “historically Hungarian” parts of Ukraine. It’s very clear he has designs on neighboring Ukranian regions.
I still remember him unveilig the plaque with all the territory they lost after ww1. Fucking insane
And that’s why Orban is so friendly with Putin: he’s hoping he can turn it into a land grab for Hungary.
Hungary for land
Funny, I just read some piece of news that one of the leaders in the romanian far-right party wants to regain the north-bucovina territories ( which have been a contentious issue for a long while now ) from Ukraine at any cost, even if it would mean Romania leaving NATO. Birds of a feather share the same russian propaganda I suppose.
According to russian propaganda Poland is supposed to take part of Ukraine as well.
Not even the most far-right group ever tries to imply that.
Thought alone is crazy. They cannot even imagine different propaganda than the internal one. Also every country is imperialist, but not russia.
Technically, sea to sea was always an aspiration of the polish but they never got there, just claimed swathes of land that belonged to others and never secured those claims.
The Hungarian empire certainly held parts of Ukraine at one point and therefore Hungary does have claims on it again, same with Romania.
The issue is, do we want the modern world to wage war based on historical land claims again like we did in centuries past? My answer is no but I’m just the peasant that will be drafted into these wars…
Just lock the two of them into a room and don’t let them out until they can agree to whom Transylvania belongs. We should have peace then.
Orban also made it obvious, walking about with a t-shirt showing a map of ‘make hungary great again’. On that map, Zakarpatia is small compared to Transylvania, and the whole of Slovakia, however EU membership kills such dreams, so… Beautiful green mountains by the way, very peaceful area.

I’m not defending Orban, I was just clarifying that this specific piece of news is not about an official government statement but about a different party that’s also in the national parliament.
Indeed, and it’s good you clarify this. Handy to have a crazier fringe party to publicly open such topics.
