On January 19th, the dedicated Clochouette team, volunteers for the preservation of the Barn Owl, made the trip to Betton in Ille-et-Vilaine in order to install a nesting box specially designed for this species.

After a careful survey of the site, the presence of the owl was confirmed, thanks to the presence of hundreds of pellets. The volunteers then set to work, carefully attaching the birdhouse to the interior frame of the building, next to an old water drum that had become rusty over the years.

To their surprise, while completing the installation, they discovered a hole in the drum where a pair of owls resided! For some volunteers, it was their first close encounter with a Barn Owl.

Faced with this unexpected finding of a “natural” nesting box already adopted by the owl, the team made the quick decision to remove the freshly installed nesting box and leave the premises as soon as possible so as not to disturb the couple. Although the official installation did not take place as planned, this nesting site is now integrated into the Clochouette network, bringing great joy to the volunteers of the group.
