For me it’s sunny, the temperature is 15 C, and the wind is blowing at 0.56 m/s. I don’t know what that that is in imperial units. Also their’s a drought where I live

    Internet safety reminder:

On posts like these, I encourage everyone to at least randomize the real values by a couple percent, round the values, or be vague on details. On occasion, even completely fabricate the values. The reason for that is to avoid doxxing through statistical analysis.

Btw, clear skies where I’m at. Very cool weather for a dive in the river.

Honestly it all depends on how paranoid you want to be. Say for example you had a rough breakup and want to get away from your significant other. For that person, maybe mentioning a city is enough to know where you will likely be? (Assuming they know it’s you using the nickname and location of family relatives, for example).

For a server host, like a Lemmy instance, if you don’t use a VPN, they could already have a general idea of where you live (if they wanted), even without you telling them. That’s because they can see the IP from all connections (if they wanted).

For a random person like me, on the other side of the world, I’d probably need a bit more than just the city.

I’ll leave what is a significant risk up to you. Just know that it depends on a case by case basis, who you’re hiding the information from, and how intent your opponents are in wanting to obtain that information. So, if there is little reward for the trouble, they probably won’t even try.

All of these things are generally called opsec (operational security), if you’re interested in researching more.

Honestly, I’ve never really took to much caution about admitting where I’m at. I carry my phone on me at all times, and it’s pretty much just a tracking device. Like, I’m not spewing it at every second of the day, but saying what city I’m in is very inconsequential when my phone records my exact location down to the building

Will the feds be able to track you with your phone effortlessly? Absolutely! However, this will likely not be the case if it’s a random chud looking for a based person to attack. In that case, seeing you mention your city on social media is going to be a lot more useful to the fash stalker, since it’s not like they have access to the logs of your ISP or the servers of websites you visit.

Your logic is wrong. If I understand you correctly, you are saying:

          1. Phone already knows precise location (through GPS).
          2. Therefore, it’s no use hiding this information.

To this I would ask, from whom? Sure, companies and government may already have access to it in some way, we can’t rule that out. But what about TankieStalker42069? Does he know the GPS coordinates? I would bet he would be very happy if you shared your location on a post, and then another post confirming it.

Same here in maritime Southeast Asia.

Although sometimes the average northern hemisphere summer months (June-Sept) is called Durian season since it’s one of our primary export commodities and a cultural staple.

It is 42 degrees right now. It feels like 42 degrees even after sundown. Tap water remains hot until late night. My AC is not working so I am sweating like a pig all day. Monsoons are approaching so maybe it gets better. But it still fills me with climate anxiety.

    Edit: Celsius

For me it’s fricking hot and dry, it’s been straight two months now that temperature is 43 to 48 °C, and wind blows at 5 to 8 m/s with no foreseeable sign of rain yet. We depend on monsoon rain for our rice crop but yet no sign of it and all the weather forecasts has gone burr… There will be drought if monsoon fails but that’s very unlikely. Monsoon has been slowed down due to a sea storm and supposed to come late. Many farmers have already started planting the rice crop with water from pumps after waiting for rain fearing the late crop. I think whereever you are now is currently in better condition then us except that drought situation but can’t that be dealt with new technologies if govt is willing?

I live in the Midwest of the US, so I get all 4 glorious seasons, though the summer is especially hot and winter is especially cold. I actually enjoy the winter, I get in touch w my Slavic side(as cringe as that sounds lol) I get to wear my ushanka and I feel so warm inside when I spit out семечки shells into the snow while listening to Катюша or some Воровайкии. I despise summer only because of my extremely active sweat glands. Other than my body’s unfortunate overreaction to heat, I enjoy reading outside and drinking Maté 🧉 while listening to Latin Jazz(if you haven’t already guessed, music is a HUGE part of my enjoyment of the weather) it doesn’t rain by me often, but when it does I satiate my Irish side and listen to Irish rebel songs(most of which are quite calm and soothing surprisingly). Great question btw, I love talking about the weather, it’s my go-to/favorite small-talk topic☺️

In Denmark, the summers are also very hot, but the winters are rarely cold enough for snowfall

Most of the time I just go to the libary, University or the park because i just can’t stay at home…

Wildfires means it’s smoke-y as hell, the heat is unbearable, and we also got thunderstorms. Right now it’s raining and 9 °C. The dogs are not a fan of the smoke, heat, and rain so this summer has been shitty for them too.

35-40 degrees Celsius. The area has been getting hotter and hotter each passing summer. We’ve hit 45 several times the past few years.

Thank god it’s been storming heavily due to La Niña these past 2 weeks, so we’ve gotten a lot of breaks from the heat. Though the humidity goes through the roof when the rain subsides.

It’s not like I’m in the Philippines or California, or somewhere else you’d expect this type of weather. In fact my area has been historically known for being very cold and temperate at best. The past 10 years have been a disaster for my area in terms of the environment and climate.
