From Harold Wilion

This last week, so many great things have popped up from this guy. He takes great shots, and all his anecdotes are helpful, funny, or both.

Today’s picture comes with a funny story about coming up with captions.

I would like to title this “Eyes On The Prize”, as if he just spotted some prey and was about to jump off and attack it. But truth be told, this was his expression right after he puked up a pellet before he adopted his “at ease” stance again for the rest of the day.

Sequence of still photos of the pellet

He also posted a video of the photos showing the whole pellet regurgitation if you’d like a look at that… 😝

Owls, as well as some other birds, have a hard time using a knife and fork to tease the meat off prey and tend to eat their prey whole. However, the bones and fur are not digestible. So, sometime after eating and before engaging in another meal they must get rid of the indigestible material by coughing up a “pellet”, or as the owls themselves like to refer to it as, mouth poop. And boy, was shocked at the size of this one was able to observe yesterday. If you ever find an owl pellet, you may be able to dissect it and see what they have been dining on as sometimes you can find entire skulls of small animals and the like.
