Is anyone here still using old 3d printers? For exanple i still use my old cr-10 v1
I guess it depends on a “ship of Theseus” type of a thing. Sure, I’m technically using a 2018 first gen Ender 3, but it also has linear rails, a Phaetus Dragonfly with a Bondtech CHT nozzle and BMG extruder, a BLtouch and it’s running Klipper with input shaping, and as a result it can spit out an almost flawless not-a-speedbenchy (because I have a 0.6mm nozzle running 0.3mm layers so it doesn’t qualify) in 22 minutes. Only thing missing is that I still haven’t upgraded the main board or stepper drivers as I’m not bothered by the noise.
So it’s both 5 years old, and also better and more moderd than quite a few of the models provided by Creality today.
I am officially retiring my Wanhao i3 Duplicator v2 on Friday when my BambuLabs p1p arrives.
Well… sort of. I am stripping the i3 of parts and I am going to use them to start building a Voron 0.2. Most of the parts are junk, but I should be able to re-use the motors, the SKR Mini e3, and a few other items/upgrades from the i3.
I’ve got one of these sitting on the shelf since i got my CR10S PRO V2. Nothing at all wrong with it either, it’s just noisy. I keep it around mostly because it’s direct drive.
My frame was pretty well warped. Made it an absolute nightmare to get everything squared and level. Finally gave up on it.
I’m still using my Ender 3 that I got in 2018, but I’ve been slowly upgrading it. Right now it’s got BTT SKR 3+raspi+klipper, a magnetic PEI build surface, direct drive extruder, dual Z (but I’m going to switch to the belted z mod by kevinakasam with a single Z stepper, partly so I can use the endstop phase feature of klipper to increase Z accuracy.
We have four Ender 3s in my makerspace, but replaced them with Prusa i3 mk3+s a few months ago. It’s such a difference in quality and time management since I don’t have to troubleshoot nearly as much. Usually with the Prusas, issues are with the models or the filament instead of yhe printer itself. I’m not sure I can go back now that I’m spoiled.
I have an old prusa i3 mk1 that I’ve converted to a laser engraver, it no longer 3d prints but is still useful in a new way
My stock Prusa i3 MK2s from 2017 is still in regular use & still works great. Not sure if this counts as ‘old’.
Our CR-10 Mini is still running reliably with mods we’ve made over time. It got us into the hobby and we have since added a Prusa and a Voron.
I still daily drive my Ender 3 from back around launch, but at this point calling it an Ender 3 feels a bit dishonest. It’s got a new hotend, extruder, bed, board, and wiring. Basically I’ve got a stock frame, psu, and screen and everything else is newer.
And my CR-10 V3 is also pretty modified as well, but that one’s a fairly newer printer.
CR-10 is considered old now? 😢
Ist around 5+ years old now so yeah. But i would say you could argue about the defintion of old
