    I agree. There has to be far more scrutiny about layoffs.

        Nah, they’re just not getting paid to care. Doing nothing is their default state, they only do something if it meaningfully improves their election chance or they’re getting paid to. In this case they wouldn’t get a significant bump in polling numbers, and nobody is stumping up the cash, so they don’t give two shits.
