That is honestly one of my favorite episodes. And one of my favorite Kirk moments. He overcomes a fear that has been plaguing him since his academy days and beats the tar out of Finnegan, something he’s wanted to do for a very long time. And as a reward, he gets to briefly kindle a love affair that shouldn’t have ended when it did. Was it all fake? Sure. Does that matter? Maybe it doesn’t to James Kirk because he overcame a great obstacle in his life.
Also, you’ve got to love that Sulu’s greatest desire was to shoot a Samurai and this was McCoy’s greatest desire-
