WEST RICHLAND, Wash. - A former Yakima police officer is charged with second-degree rape of a child, according to court documents NonStop Local obtained. The Benton County Prosecutors Office tells NonStop Local Elias Huizar has been officially charged with rape.

The Yakima Police Department said Huizar worked as a police officer for almost nine years, from June 2013 to February 2022.

According to the court documents, Huizar was arrested earlier this month after his underage girlfriend caught him assaulting her 16-year-old friend in his home.
