Why does it feel better, mentally and physically to hold a mug by the body rather than the handle that’s literally built into the thing, designed explicitly for holding?
Because it’s like giving a soothing, warm thing a hug? I definitely prefer holding a mug by the handle though.
That’s because you’re not in an ad for Heinz tomato cup-a-soup. In winter. Wearing a baggy sweater.
I sometimes hold by the handle but tend to find I hold the body more, maybe 80:20
I’ve been testing this morning. I think it depends on where the handle is pointing and which hand I’m lifting the cup with. I’m looking at 80:20 in favour of the body.
I won’t if it’s about weight/centre of gravity. Holding a full mug by the handle is more effort and less comfortable.
Plus my fingers don’t get all toasty warm.
I’m of the opinion you never buy a Brit a mug as a present. They’re very personal and it takes ages to find one you really like. Then you accidentally break the fuckin thing
Very true, same for ‘you never use someone else’s mug’ in case you break it
Worst thing ever going round someones house and they say “oh just get a mug out the cupboard” like Indiana Jones and the last cruisade take a newer one it might be expensive or take the old tea stained thing that probly belonged to Grandad who just passed away last week
I’ve never really thought of the handle being for holding and drinking, but more of a “transport handle”, so you can attempt to carry 2-3 mugs in each hand, when you’ve done a round of brews for everyone.
You need one of these https://muggi.co.uk/
