Hello,

I am looking for a budget reliable printer.

I know that some companies scam the crap out of you as soon as you buy their printers and I would like to not fall victim to that.

My budget is around 100 dollars, I don‘t care if laser or ink printer.

Of course I need a certain compatibility to Linux.

Thanks a lot already for your answers and have a nice day!

Edit: Thanks for the kind tips, I will definitely get myself a brother printer.

I have had great results with brother laser printers. I bought one used off ebay a lifetime ago and only replaced it because I wanted a scanner/laser combo. The used one I handed off to a friend and it’s still chugging along 15 years after it landed on my desk.

Seconded. I’ve had two a 2750dw and recently upgraded to a 2550dw for mfp functionality. Never had an issue. Toner lasts forever only ever replaced two. They just work and cost very little to operate.

As far as I know Epson doesn’t go that extra mile in preventing you from scanning while color cartridge is on low…

Brother. Always Brother. I got a cheap one with toner. Haven’t changed ink yet in 3 years.

I’ve had good luck with Brother, they still provide Linux drivers for an older fax/printer combo I have from 1994, and it works perfectly on the latest version of Mint.

I’ve also had good luck with a vintage office HP Laser printer with dual-sided printing, the HP 2300D. You can pick them up used or refurbished off ebay cheap, and it’s been plug’n’play for me on Linux. They’re built like tanks, and the toner is cheap as heck.

Whatever you do, make sure it’s a laser printer unless you need color prints often, it’ll be 10x more affordable in the long run thanks to the cheapness of toner, and they tend to have much less reliability problems.

I have a Brother laser printer, and I would certainly buy another. We print to it from windows, Linux. iOS and Android apps.
