I downloaded the latest development release of GIMP today to check out the effects layers and it’s awesome! Such a happy day for me to edit non-destructively in GIMP! Really looking forward to the stable release :)
I’ve tried it and I literally jumped out of my seat. Anyway crashed after some time. But the feature was a long waited one. Going to experiment more.
Great isn’t it?! I noticed one bug, to do with tooltips. We should help the devs by giving feedback.
Yay, and only 28 years after Photoshop first implemented it
I think its a nice achievement since there are only few (extremely few) devs are there and only handful support them.
I agree that it is a nice achievement, and I don’t begrudge a small team for finishing things slowly…
but this feature wasn’t even started until 2023, and by someone who wasn’t on the team: https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/programs/2023/projects/CuwyAr75
I begrudge the deliberate choice to not prioritize this feature for 25 years.
That’s fair enough - plenty of us have been calling for it for a long time. Hopefully they will feel the positivity in response to bringing it in and adjust their future priorities more in accordance with popular demand.
This is mostly the reason I immediately dropped gimp for anything. For me personally, this feature missing and the backwards ui are a deal breaker.
Well it won’t be long until it’s included in the stable release, so good news :) Not sure what you mean about the backward UI tho. Do you mean the menu structure?
