I recently bought a cheap crappy Sim card to try and get it to work on a ThinkPad x200. Has anyone here done this successfully before?
I feel like I am just being an idiot. I’m not sure where to go to look for the relevant Sim card information to configure and I’m not even sure if I’m doing anything correctly.
Check from psref of X200 is the sim card reader for 2G or 3G internet. Then check is it enabled in the bios.
If you’re using Linux, then read this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/ThinkPad_mobile_Internet
Also keep in mind that in many 1st world countries they’ve almost entirely phased out 2 and 3g so it probably won’t even work.
In the US it’s almost entirely gone, I’m sure the EU will follow shortly if they haven’t already. I know T-Mobile at least claims they’ve entirely turned off their 2g and 3g except for a few areas, and Verizon is more or less the same.
3g already phased out also in South East Asia… most frequency are used for digital TV
I bought a SIM card for my T470 (4G/LTE) and had no issues; it just worked out of the box. I think it depends on the cell service provider. Reach out to them and ask. Data-only SIMs are more common than you’d think.
