The day has come for another new update! This update adds a lot of things, and fixes a lot of issues that it is hard to summarize in one page. Before I go on to the update notes, I would like to give a big big big shoutout to all the contributors that have been helping for this past week.

This update was an accumulation of all their work, along with some of my usual work. These contributors include but are not limited to @bactaholic, @micahmo, @Fmstrat, @CTalvio, @ajsosa, @guigs4, @coslu, @minicit! In addition to that, there have been others who have been helping with clarifying issues, bringing up ideas, and providing feedback. Some of the names to shout out are @machinaeZER0, @krestenlaust, @Poolitzer

Please let me know if I have missed anyone :D Now onto the update itself.

Important: it is highly recommended to reinstall the app for the best (and least buggy) experience possible

This update brings a few major features:

  • Swipe customization - you can now assign different actions to the left and right swipes
  • Font scaling - you can now set a font size for titles and content
  • Various UI improvements - you’ll notice various tweaks which should improve the overall look and experience of Thunder
  • Addition of comment sorting - you can now sort comments from any of the available options
• More sharing options - you can now share posts, links, and media from the dialog menu when you long-press on a post
  • Improved performance to long comment threads - you should experience less lag as you scroll through long comment threads

As always, this is an alpha release, so do expect bugs to pop up here and there. If you would like to see the full change log containing all the additions, changes, and fixes, you can check them out here: https://github.com/hjiangsu/thunder/releases/tag/v0.2.1%2B11

I have also created a Matrix space for Thunder for those interested in joining: https://matrix.to/#/#thunderapp:matrix.org. I’m still new to Matrix, so suggestions on improvements to the space is greatly appreciated!

I would just like to thank everyone so far for the amazing support so far. Thunder is still a project that I can only work on the side, and it has been incredible so far. A lot of my time has been taken up to work on improvements to Thunder, and to maintain active and meaningful conversations to improve the overall experience for Thunder.

If you would like to show a token of appreciation, I have a opened up a few donations links. I would like to preface this by saying this is completely optional, and does not change anything with regards to Thunder. The donations will help support some of the development overhead costs (e.g., apple developer program for TestFlight builds) and other costs!

Thanks again for everything so far, and I hope you enjoy this update! Here’s another cookie for you for reaching the end of this post 🍪

If you find any issues or would like to suggest features, please open up a new issue! As always, contributions are always welcomed here.

That used to be the online icon to let you know how many people were actively online. I think something changed recently where most of the communities don’t have a value for that

If anyone knows more information about whether this is still being used, let me know and I can remove that in the next release

Great update! Fixes pretty much every issue I’ve had with the app, and adds most of the features I was missing.

The things I still wish were there- seeing score on comments from profile page, and tapping on a comment on your profile page taking you straight to the comment itself, rather than the post. Also, the option to edit/delete comments from the profile page.

I noticed that the app does not list all of my subscriptions; however, posts from all of my subscriptions appear to be showing up in my Subscriptions feed. If the app could list all of the user’s subscriptions, I think this would be helpful if we only want to browse posts from a particular subscription. Thank you for your work on the app.

Are there any plans to add comment collapse to the comment swipe gestures? That was my favorite feature from Apollo, along with the full width swipe to go back. I love the app otherwise, it has been amazing how feature rich it has become so quickly!

I would suggest making a feature request for this on GitHub! I don’t think it has been discussed yet but it should be possible

Does anyone have a working link for the download?

After trying lots of different options, including the notification upon restarting the app, I can’t find a link that works.

I get the impression that the Git page (.apk) points to a non existing file.

Is it throwing a 404 error when you open up the links? That’s a known issue with some links in Thunder.

What you can do is go to Settings -> About -> GitHub to open up the page. Then scroll down to “Get it on GiHub” and it should direct you to the latest release with the apk!

        Android.

No 404 or ANY response to short or long press on the link on any of the pages including the about method.

Opening the page in Firefox and tapping on the link instantly initiates a download.

Debug log? If I can access one I will attempt multiple options the immediately access the log.

Opening the page in Firefox and tapping on the link instantly initiates a download.

Could you clarify this? What file starts downloading when you tap on the link?

Hmm, maybe I’m not understanding the question correctly. If you’re trying to get the file for the latest version, that apk file should be it! You should then just be able to install Thunder using that apk file.

If I’m mis-interpreting your question, please feel free to correct me!

I think this might be something to do with Thunder itself - I’ll be taking a look at it!

    Account info deleted on upgrade.

I had to add my account back which wasn’t fun after numerous “something went wrong” taking me back to ALL instead of the add account page I had filled in.

Early day teething issues so this is for info, not a rant.

This update changed some things on the account logic which was why account info was removed. Generally, most of the future updates should keep your account info! (unless theres a big change to the logic)

Matrix space for Thunder - Thunder app is not acceptable for viewing?

I was presented with a list of apps to choose from.
