I REALLY fancy building a Maestro Fuzz clone based on the original. Point to point wiring etc… I’ve got a soldering iron sitting there doing nothing and some spare time during week days due to my job.
Does anyone know where people get housings, resistors, capacitors etc etc in the UK? Amazon seems to sell a load but I dont want 100x some value part that I wont ever use.
Also where do others find the right schematics?
If you do think you’re going to do a small batch, I can recommend https://www.taydaelectronics.com/
Will take some time but great selection and cheap prices on everything you’ll need.
Schematics: https://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/ is a good one
Checking out that blog now! Cheers! 😎
Not point to point but https://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2014/08/maestro-fz-1-fuzz-tone.html
Yes, I saw. 😎😎😎
Build your own clone is a good place for parts too. https://buildyourownclone.com/
For UK specifically, I quite like BitsBox. They have a few pedal kits but will also sell the components you need for most pedals.
For general hobby electronics supplies https://shop.pimoroni.com have served me well over the years. As have https://thepihut.com (& a few others I can’t remember off the top of my head).
Anywhere that sells arduino and/or raspberry pi boards will usually stock a wide selection of parts, & often in smaller hobbyist quantities.
Have fun exploring & planning your project, wish I had the spare time for some side projects at the moment, maybe one day soon…
UPDATE: for schematics & project ideas you could possibly start with https://www.instructables.com which has a selection of user created diy projects, including guitar pedals by the looks of it (although I have no idea if that’s the type of pedal you’re after, or the quality of particular projects)
I’d say your best bet is an independent electronic part shop. Try asking on your local sublemmy/subreddit
We dont really have those now …Maplin used to have a store 2 miles from here but they all closed down. Bit of a shame.
Your best bet is, sadly, amazon or eBay. There are some small sellers with a Web store, but you’ll likely have to buy in the same bulk units as amazon or ebay and likely for more.
With a quick search I’ve seen Maplin does free delivery in the UK. There’s also:
https://dazzletech.co.uk/ with a proper selection of DIY electronics stuff.
https://quasarelectronics.co.uk/ again with loads of different things. https://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/ for a small selection of USB host chips and boards. There’s more, but that’s the first 3 that popped up that wasn’t Amazon, eBay or Maplin.
Edit: hobbytronics apparently does a MIDI to DIN box, which is kinda neat.
I think the name “Maplin” got bought after they had financial problems. I’ll have a look at those too, though.
Fair dues, hope I was at least a little helpful.
