Really too bad. I was hopeful, but it sounds like it’s not happening.

Such a bummer. It’s Star Trek: Phase II all over again.

Maybe, if we’re lucky, Star Trek: Academy will pleasantly surprise us.

Well, the death of Phase II gave us the movie series and The Next Generation. Short term loss translated into long-term gain, which led to the golden era of Star Trek.

It remains to be seen if this door closing opens other, better doors.

Paramount had previously announced setting a trend with 1 Trek movie per year. Beyond Section 31, I know of no others specifically mentioned. Keep hope alive that the concept gets retooled. And perhaps… some holo logs of Captain Shaw.

Starship Command Tips with Captain Shaw.

Right along side Healthcare Tips with the EMH Mark I.

That’s why I specified Mark I. It has to be Picardo or no dice.

I only clarified because there are still plenty of Mark I’s out there scrubbing plasma conduits. Only 1 sang opera and daydreamed about being a captain.

Fair point, it has to be Voyager’s EMH.

‘There’s a Mark II on the Prometheus, but he has no sense of humor.’

I really want an update on that story, like did it spark something in the Mark I’s, did they form a union? Overthrow their owners? We’re there poets or philosophers because of what they learnt from The Doctors holonovel?

Seriously though, that fourth Kelvin movie is actually still alive and Chris Pine is still signed to it. After all the dead horses Paramount has thrown in front of it, they should just let it through and see how it does. I think it’ll be good and actually make money, like all the other Kelvin movies did. Especially if Simon Pegg gets to write again.

Then it would be a complete failure and Paramount would have to layoff 8,000 single parents to make up for it.

I dunno, I’m not that bothered by this. I liked season 3 of Picard but it is still overrated. It was better than the trash that was seasons 1 and 2, but it was ultimately a nostalgia fest and also a silly plot, and not really very star trek. The big step up was a return to characterisation - I get that people like that, but when you look at the plot it’s just silly.

The world created is too dark, statfleet too militaristic, and they shat on the utopian outlook of the TNG. I think Seven would make an interesting captain, but they killed off the interesting characters (like captain shaw and the vulcan character who was pointlessly executed) and kept poor characters like Picard son.

I like strange new worlds, it’s great. I can see Legacy could be good in the right hands, but I’m not sold on the premise shoe horned in to the end of Picard or the characters left. Ed Speelers certainly isn’t up to it frankly. And Picard could have been good show but overall was poor - it’s more than the concept; you need a good story and Picards weren’t good stories.

From Paramount point of view, do they need another SNW at the moment? Probably not.

Well. This is simply unacceptable. I would like to lodge a formal protest. On the official record. Take note!

Huh? For something to be “dead”, it has to be “alive” first. This never existed so the title is weird.

Picard S3 all but birthed it, it felt like a meaningful set-up and passing of the baton, after bringing seven back into the federation fold and now as a captain (news delivered by Tuvoc). The writers and such were also wanting it to be a thing

To say it never existed is quite reductive

Picard showrunner Terry Matalas even suggested the name for the new show. It’s obvious that he was expecting it to happen.

Whether the writers wanted it or not is not the point - it’s never been suggested for production. The producer said as much.

To suggest anything more is quite fabulist.

Bummer. But given that streaming services in general don’t seem to be doing that great and that paramount was just actively seeking to be bought or merged or whatever, it really doesn’t surprise me that they aren’t going out of their way right now to make new and likely expensive trek shows beyond what they are already working on.

But with Discovery gone, they have a void to fill and I am not convinced Starfleet Academy will fill it adequately.

I love Tilly, but I don’t think her heading up a cast of adolescents makes for a compelling show.

Yea it probably won’t fill that void adequately.

But doesn’t that also make the assumption that they want to fill that void instead of scale back how many trek shows they are producing.

I guess they’re in a sort of catch-22 situation. They need Star Trek to keep people subscribing but Star Trek is more expensive than they can afford.

Honestly, I’m ok with not having it. The ending of season 3 with Jack on the bridge just wasn’t doing it for me. Let’s move forward with new stuff.
