Ah yes, the lady responsible for “the investigatory powers act”. A bill that forces logging of internet usage by telecom companies - what I like to call a “groundwork bill”.

The data now exists, all that is needed is a new bill saying it can be used to prosecute civil cases, and a whole new era of repression will begin.

Then again, she did give us the creepy swagger meme, and the “strong and stable” slogan. So at least she gave us a few laughs while fighting to destroy online privacy eh?

Another joining the queue to leave the sinking ship. How very British of them 🙄

With this many MPs standing down, its going to cause a big shift Tory party itself. What sort of person is going to want to stand for the party now?

There has already been a big shift and a brain drain from the Tory party. Literally no one is competent enough for the Foreign Sec job so Dave has to come back.

The purges of Boris et al are adding up to a psychotic shift to the right and pure populism. Your David Gaukes, Rory Stewart’s etc. all forced out. Teresa May is a least not a psycho, but that doesn’t mean you have to agree with her. You can understand why she acts the way she does.

Nigel is going to make sure the shift to the right is permanent. They will be the Fox News GB edition party.

With the Tories, gone is the time you could say “you know what I completely disagree with what you are saying but I completely understand why you are saying it.”.

I think Guy Fawkes had a lot of good ideas.

Tbf to them, she is a pensioner now and probably just wants to retire. Lots of others leaving are much younger though and clearly aren’t fans.

As polls continue to show Labour with a significant lead over the Conservatives, May joins 64 Conservatives and former Conservatives who will not fight their seats at the next election

Like rats from a sinking ship. Unfortunately, we’re all left on the ship as they move on to cushy jobs from their rich chums.

She turned a Brexit crisis into a fully fledged disaster.

The only reason she isn’t reviled even more is because she was followed by the catastrophic Boris Johnson.

Yes, her Brexit oversight was a shit show, but for me, her biggest disgrace was her inaction on Grenfell.

May they all rest in peace

Not campaigning on leaving the European Convention of Human Rights.

Or deporting people with British Citizenship who have lived here longer than her.

I’m not saying you’re not right. But given her actual actions in government even her egregious inactions. The complete failures to do important things.

They aren’t as bad as what she actually did.

What is closer to the heart of the Leader of the Conservative Party as ripping of social systems and protecting the corpo class? Is she going to rip out tulips and roses in front of homeless shelter? What a disgusting woman. She and her party brought so much pain over that country.

She was not a good PM but she got dealt an extremely bad hand. It was compounded by the fact that her personality type was not suited to “selling” any deal she came back with when dealing with the EU.

      She deserved a bad hand.

As Home Secretary she enacted the “hostile environment” on immigration, took away British citizens rights with wind. Cut benefits and enacted austerity on the poorest and most vulnerable in society.

Her remain “campaigning” consisted of saying she was in favour of the EU as long as the UK could negotiate leave the European Convention of Human Rights while staying in.

She was a full part of the government that caused the mess.

The idea we should feel sorry for her because people didn’t do what she wanted (either the public voting, or MPs) is ludicrous.

As a senior member of government she attacked the weakest and most vulnerable. The poorest and most disadvantaged.

Acted badly in a referendum that was then lost not in the least part due to discontentment with her department directly.

Then bullshited everyone with sound bites afterwards like “Brexit means Brexit.” Or “Red White and Blue Brexit”. Won the leadership and then has nothing to campaign on or set a manifesto on.

She deserves to be mocked and ridiculed for her incompetence. She deserves to be vilified for her malice and cruelty.

She wanted power, got it as home secretary. Then did everything she could to prop it up so she could do as much damage to us as possible.

Lost control and support of her party, never had the support of the public.

Let her retire, but take away everything from her except what she’d give to a disabled 50 year old from another country who can’t work their old job anymore.

No national pension, she took that from people with the wrong parents.

She probably should get put on a prison hulk, then sent to Rwanda. That’s the legacy of the Home office she’s given us.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The former prime minister Theresa May will step down as an MP at the next general election after 27 years in parliament.

In a statement to the Maidenhead Advertiser, the Maidenhead MP said she wanted to focus on causes close to her heart, including her work on the Global Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.

May, who was first elected in 1997, said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to serve everyone in the Maidenhead constituency as the Member of Parliament for the last 27 years.

“Being an MP is about service to one’s constituents and I have always done my best to ensure that I respond to the needs of local people and the local area.”

    More details soon …
