I was visiting my mother today and she gave me this. It was my grandmothers embroidery hoop from either the late 50s or early 60s! As cool looking as it is it doesn’t seem super practical though. The shape is odd, and the only tension on it is from a little spring at the top lol

I love it!

I’ve got a couple of these that used to be my mother’s, and as long as the cork inserts are still present (they look like they are here) to provide extra friction, I find them quite usable. They have the advantage of being easier to adjust if you have to move the hoop around a lot. You do have to pull the fabric tight again periodically, but I always seem to have to do that anyway. 😅 (I should get a set of stretcher bars, I guess.)

The cork is still there, but some big chunks of it are missing. I was planning to see if I could find something at the craft store to replace it so I can try and use the hoop!

A quick check of Amazon turns up cork sheets sold as backing for coasters that may be of an appropriate thickness.

That was going to be my next stop if the craft store didn’t have anything lol! Luckily Michael’s had a big 2 foot roll of 2mm cork that looks like it will work perfectly!

Oh that’s cool. If you don’t end up enjoying actually stitching with it, you could maybe finish something special in it?

That’s definitely a good idea! I just got some supplies to replace the cork in it so I can really try it out! If it doesn’t work well for me I may make a pattern out of a portion of my family tree to put in it!
