Welcome to the post-intervention world. No one wants to take on the costs of not just the fight, but the decade plus of nation-building that comes afterward. These “gangs” are going to become the government of Haiti.

It’s lose-lose for developed countries. If they intervene there’ll be nonstop whining about “imperialism”, and if they do nothing people will complain about the lack of help.

It’s not lose-lose if they actually go through with it.

It’s a difficult process, but not an impossible one.

People want quick results and focus too much on borders in fragmented nations. If we just established territories and let them grow organically, then these problems would be solved over time.

We need to focus on trends, rather than destinations.

This is a really tough situation. What would be the best response to this? It’s a humanitarian crisis and the people of Haiti are going to suffer immensely but what can other countries do? I don’t know much about the gang leader “Barbecue” but I’d wager he isn’t going to be a benevolent leader so just letting him take over is probably going to make things worse. At the same time, I don’t even think a UN peacekeeping force is going to have a positive impact as I’m pretty sure the people of Haiti are suspicious of EU powers due to their history. I can’t see a solution to this one that brings about a stable Haiti in the near term. Hopefully someone with more awareness in this topic could share some insights though.

UN peacekeepers has been tried before in Haiti.

I don’t really know of a solution, but before one is deterred Caribbean leaders are meeting today in Jamaica to discuss the issue. Let’s see what they come up with. Most all of them don’t have a military who could swoop in to control Haiti.

Haiti is a warning and an omen. Expect to see similar issues in Western countries in the following decade.

Very interesting link, thanks for sharing. I’m curious, do you know of Daniel Schmachtenberger , and if so, are you willing to draw any parallels?

I do know Schmachtenberger. This talk he gave at Norrsken about the Meracrisis is sobering. I got into Turchin and cliodynamics after reading Foundation and wondering if psychohistory was possible. I think the meta crisis is global capitalism.

Fascinating. Well thanks once again for the link to Turchin, I have a big stack of books to add to my list now.

I’m trying to care but I can’t. My compassion is stretched thin from so many other issues.

And also because I fully believe this is what’s eventually going to happen all throughout the West. I doubt many people will be sympathethic when it’s our turn…

I know where you heads at friend. I feel the exact same way. Just try to focus on the things impacting your day to day and work through those for the little victories. Things will get better.

      You don’t have to care.

You can however watch this summary to understand what lead to all this. And then one day you may go into whatever challenge you encounter with this extra knowledge.
