I mean no surprise really, easily deserved for a beautiful movie.
Spider-Verse fans in shambles.
I had no idea going into spider-verse that it was only a part one. Left me really disappointed when we hit the end with no payoff. Reminded me of Halo 2
Yeah, same here. Then I read that part 2 was delayed longer than expected because of the strikes and it was even worse.
I had no idea till you said it here, so I’ll hold off on watching it till part 2 is closer.
Honestly more in shambles Spider-Verse wasn’t nominated for Best Picture. I don’t think anything in the best picture category had better cinematography (is it still called that for animated films?), editing, or directing.
Also the weird dichotomy between unavoidable fate and accidental existence really set up an interesting world and conflict.
In recent years it definitely feels like they are less willing to look outside a specific type of movie.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
The Boy and the Heron beat Disney’s Elemental and Spider-Man Across the Spider-verse to win the Best Animated Feature Film prize.
Set during World War Two, the semi-autobiographical film is about a boy who meets a mysterious speaking heron after losing his mother.
The co-founder of Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli won his first Oscar in 2003 for Spirited Away, about a girl who tries to save her parents who are turned into pigs - making it the first non-English animated film to win the title.
Spirited Away went on to become Japan’s highest grossing movie of all time and held the record for 19 years.
My Neighbor Totoro, a film about two sisters and their mystical animal friend is also among Japan’s most popular and has become the mascot of the production house.
In 2014, Miyazaki - who has been dubbed the godfather of animation - received an honorary Oscar in recognition of his storytelling.

Very deserved, I thought it was a beautiful film.
Good, that’s well-deserved.
