I actually hate that the actual links are being hidden behin the Title of the community. I want to know which link I need to click to go to the community and potentially subscribe, while staying on my own instance.

For now every post is filled with bunch of links - some take to the community’s original instance, some to it’s reflection in my instance, some links take somewhere completely different.

Also, what’s the point of writing !whatisthisthing@lemmy.world if the link doens’t work. What works for me is this link: /c/whatisthisthing@lemmy.world

      I feel your pain 😀

When I read the instructions for this group I was surprised how many different formats there were, some of which didn’t seem to do anything for me. I just worked on the assumption that each of them must support some different users or use cases. Hopefully this will all settle down at some point and we’ll all know exactly what links to use for what purpose 🤞

Yeah, but it’s nice to realise that other people are going ‘huh?’ at some of this stuff too.

Oh, I actually noticed a thing I said was wrong. I said:

What works for me is this link: /c/[email protected]

It doesn’t work after all. What I was looking at was the “source” of the OP which showed

            “What is this thing?”

            as

            ["What is this thing?"](/c/whatisthisthing@lemmy.world)

which made me think that writing community links works just like reddit and you can just write c/<community>@<communitys_instance> and it will link to it. But turns out it doesn’t work like that after all.

What works is specifically using the link syntax of

            [<link_title>](c/<community>@<communitys_instance>)

which will create a link, but

            c/<community>@<communitys_instance>

            by itself wont.

Currently in Challenge mode, so if you’ve got something you think will stump us, post it as a CHALLENGE.

I really mean this! I’m scouring my house at the moment trying to find something obscure but entertaining after my first object got guessed in about a minute.
