It is better than I remember. The visual effects are far better than should have been possible for the time. The story is exquisite. As I watched it all I could think was "For Democracy!’
The visual effects are still good for the same reason the visual effects on the OG Jurassic Park are still good: they knew when to use CGI and when to use practical effects.

I did the same thing! A friend of mine mentioned that the movie had a huge uptick in streaming recently due to Helldivers 2. I don’t know where he got that info from, but I’d believe it.
I did the same and had the added bonus of getting my wife to watch it for the first time. And then I went diving after and it was just… Right.
