    I’m pretty sure the original gold rush was also an environmental disaster that destroyed agriculture and introduced mercury contamination to the waterways, so this may be a bit of a false dichotomy.

      See that was my first thought. The two things don’t have to be mutually exclusive. In fact, I’d say deep sea mining will be both!

    yes. some people will get extremely rich while the rest of us are left to pay for the clean up.
