If I have my browser maximized in my center monitor, whenever I go to search on Lemmy or go to my inbox and it is empty, the screen goes completely blank/black. It looks as if it lost power. If the browser is not maximized, it wont happen. This happens whether I use Chrome or Firefox. Any ideas on how to start troubleshooting?

  • OS: KDE Neon 6.0
  • KDE PLasma: 6.0.2 (happened with KDE 5.x too)
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
  • Monitor messing up in connnected to the HDMI port.
  • Other two monitors are connected (a) to the DisplayPort and (b) DVI-D

That sounds a little bit like a hardware issue. Lemmy can’t effect the display as that’s not possible.

What movements are you doing when visiting Lemmy? Could you be unplugging something? Try wiggling your setup.

Does it happen on either of the other two monitors?

Super strange sounding issue, btw. Quite interesting.

Not at all. It only happens on the monitor connected to the HDMI port.

Did you ever find a solution to this? How old is your graphics card? It might be dying.

Nope. It also happened when I was logging into google. When the password section came up, it went completely dark. Luckily, I can move the mouse to the top of the screen, click-hold, and pull down, which will un-maximize the browser, and the screen will come back on.

The video card is an GTX 1060 6GB. I don’t know when I got it exactly, but I did get it brand new sometime around 2017, so it’s about 7 years old.

    Yeah, I don’t think it’s a Lemmy issue.

I’m just moving my mouse and not bumping into anything. This happens 100% reliably and doesn’t happen at all if there is any posts/comments on the screen.
