    It’s crazy how ancient this artefact is. It’s an Egyptian column from 3500 years ago that was transported to Istanbul around 1700 years by Roman emperors.

    It’s also 20 min by public transport from my house.

      I was visiting London a little bit ago and wandering down the Thames first night I was there. I just look up and there is an Ancient Egyptian obelisk. A nice little sign about how they were “gifted” it. Was totally unexpected

    I know the title is for the sake of the reference, but I’m pretty sure it was still called Constantinople back then

      By the 19th century, the Turks were consistently calling it Istanbul, though ‘Constantinople’ was still in use outside of the Ottoman Empire.

      I hate that song, but only cause it gets stuck in my head.

        Istanbul is a long way from where ISIS operated. It still exists.
