inspired by the other discussion post today, it got me thinking about what match evokes the best childhood memory? it doesn’t have to be a good match or anything - just the one that you remember most?

for me, it’s eddie gilbert vs the dark patriot from global in 1992. i didn’t really watch wwf growing up but i was really big into wcw and i remember discovering global on espn afterschool and out of every wrestling match i watched nothing is more memorable than global.

someone uploaded it to youtube, so you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRNuKdaRbd8

That time when in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer’s table

Royal Rumble 92, Flair’s win. Growing up I only really had WWF on tv and the occasional WCW episode now and then so my old man (the type to go rent a dozen VHS tapes, copy them with his 5 VCR switcher set up, swap the tape reels and return the copies lmao) would head to the variety video and get random PPV’s for me to watch (after the aforementioned copying lol).

RR92 was one of the first ones and I swear I damn near wore a hole into the VHS ribbon watching that match.

Edit: And if I can throw in a 2nd, Ultimate Warrior vs Macho Man. Warrior whupping the dog shit out of Savage, Sherri coming in and attacking him after the match and Elizabeth finally having enough and saving him/reuniting with him. I had a WWF home video release of big wrestlemania moments with Randy holding up Elizabeth on his shoulders on the front cover which sat on my bookshelf for the first half of my life lol.

Not actually a match, but Roddy Piper beating up Bobby Heenan for ruining Santa Claus. When it aired, I was already old enough to know that Santa was kayfabe. But, I had a younger brother and several cousins that still believed in the magic, and this episode of Prime Time is what made me a Piper fan for life.

For me it’s probably any of the best of seven matches between BookerT and Chris Benoit.

For me it would probably be a match I never actually saw and was probably done many times in various house shows around the county.

I remember being 5 years old and for weeks WWF Superstars on KMSP played promos promoting am upcoming “world shattering” match Between Hulk Hogan & The Big Boss Man at the Target Center. I begged my dad to take me repeatedly, but we could hardly afford to keep the fridge full in those days let aline stick a 5 year old me in a car for 2 hours to get to Minneapolis for who knows how many hour show and over priced crap that a 5 year old would need to commerate going to a WWF House show.

Hulk Hogan vs. Ultimate Warrior at Mania 6. This was like the ultimate confrontation when I was a kid.

Now I think they’re both trash, both in the ring and as humans. But that’s the way things go sometimes.

An easy answer and probably a common one from my country (UK) would be the 2000 Royal Rumble and ru l the Street Fight that was part of it. Great match, fell in love with Cactus Jack and by extension Mick Foley just as the company began to peak in the attitude era.

Then channel 4 stopped showing wrestling. Think it went to sky and I was poor. Would have just turned 17 I guess and my first real taste of pro wrestling.

And that’s why the UK ended up loving free-ass TNA more than pay-to-watch WWE! lol 😣
