    Mugshots have always been weird to me. You havent been convicted of anything, why should your face be broadcast to everyone?

      Yeah, as a non-american, from all the media exposure i thought you have to be sentenced and mugshot mean you’re on the way to your jail cell. Then Donald Trump mugshot released and i thought that clown is finally heading to jail, but later found out the trial haven’t even begin. Its super messed up.

      Because it means there’s a public record of people detained by police, makes it harder to disappear people.

      There’s a serious consequence of people assuming arrested=guilty, and regardless of the result, your life can be ruined. But there’s still a way to keep the public informed about who the cops locked up.

        I didn’t see how that prevents disappearing. If they want you gone they just won’t take a mugshot.

        It’s not just arrested=guilty, but accused=guilty

        This is why mugshots or other pictures of people not yet convicted should not be published
