I wonder why the writers kept raw dogging his life so hard. He went through more shit than anyone else I can think off off the top of my head.
Speculation from myself and others is that because he’s an accomplished actor of both stage/screen, he was given content that would otherwise showcase his abilities. Apparently, he was one of the only regular cast of DS9 afforded time away from the show’s production to pursue other projects. This wound up feeding into Dax actor Terry Farrell’s eventual removal from the show.

Part of him being a prick was refusing to reduce the amount of screen time Jadzia would have, and instead killing her off
