    That headline is very misleading.

The 2 methods of measuring Hubble’s constant disagree. One with measurement of the CMB, and one by measuring galaxy distances and speed.

JWST just decreased the error in measuring distances.

We don’t know why they disagree so we can’t make a statement about ‘universe expanding at different speeds’

I don’t understand. Is it expanding faster the further out you look or is it just different in different places without rhyme or reason?

The former implies our math may need to be adjusted, but the latter implies alien architecture underlying the universe.

    I don’t understand.

It does expand faster the farther away you get from your frame of reference…and it might also be expanding at different rates in different places.

The latter in no way implies alien architecture. Watch an explosion in slow motion…it isn’t a perfect sphere. I know that isn’t a very precise analogy, but it demonstrates how a natural, explosive process can result in something being oddly shaped.

Yeah, I don’t mean alien as intelligent, just profoundly strange and different.

But I do appreciate that visualization, it helps provide a useful frame of reference.
