I know someone who plays the Ace Attorney games and long text based RPG games actively and this is a very targeted post.

I beat all the Danganronpas and the mini games during the trials are so annoying. I get they wanted to change things up. But at no point did I go, “Aw hell yeah peak gaming”.

I don’t think the gameplay is fun at all.

It’s the story - it’s so freaking engaging. And I’ll deal with the boring point and click finding for clues, if I get to learn more how the sumo wrestler man was not the killer.

It is. Finished Trials and Tribulations last week. What an adventure.

I’ve been looking at Ace Attorney Chronicles for a while (that funky prequel one) because it looks really unique

Yeah, it looks pretty cool. I’m gonna take a break from the series, but I’ll definitely check it out at some point too.

This is so true. The best game ever made Deus Ex has notes you read but all conversations are voiced

Have you even played Deus Ex recently, it’s actually better than it was when it released due to its messages being more relevant today

I find a lot of the conspiracy shit reeeeealy hasn’t aged well.

Have you played disco Elysium? Its pretty Fucking poignant. On like every level. I imagine it might fall flat on a kid, but if youre old enough for the original deus ex, you’re old enough for some of the harder shit to hit home.

Yeah I got through like 20 minutes of that game before I realized it was a light novel and this wasn’t some kind of annoyingly long and convoluted tutorial.

The non visual novel parts (the investigations) are by far the weakest point imho. I always was extremely happy to be back in court

Yeah but it wasn’t as gamey, as, say, a game

which is what I thought I bought when I got it

It’s got about as much gameplay as most hack n’ slash action games or FPSes where you spend the entire game spamming the same buttons over and over again.

And a hell of a lot more story.

I mean personally I think it’s closer to those point and click adventure games, just shrunk down to be appropriate for a handheld of the day

If you went into phoenix wright as an adult and didn’t understand the concept of a visual novel, you played yourself.

Biggest reason I play visual novels is definitely for story and lack of gameplay, usually (cough cough Danganronpa cough cough). Gameplay means little to me if I’m really interested in the story and wanna see it through.
