As a 50+ year old woman with little to no interest in Science Fiction, I would always just roll my eyes when I would come across yet another Reddit post about this book. And then, I broke down and got the audiobook since it was on sale. And, wow, I was soooo wrong. I really enjoyed it and my eyes were “leaking” so much at the ending.
So I thought I would become one of those people and say if you haven’t listened yet, then you REALLY should. The narrator was outstanding and I think that helped me get through some of the more “technical” parts that might have stopped me if I was “reading” and not “listening”.
Fist my bump
jazz hands!
hahah, I had forgotten about that interaction. Rocky and Grace’s interactions were just so wholesome.
I love love love PHM. Still trying to get my wife to read it…
Oh I’ve been there. Finally convinced my wife and it became a favorite of hers!
I get excited every time I hear about someone picking up PHM. It makes me want to read it again (I’ve read it twice so far). Thanks for sharing.
Great book! Still the only one of his that I’ve read. I should really pick up The Martian… Project Hail Mary felt to me like a better version of old Michael Crichton books.
I just finished it last week and concur. It’s so well done. And I absolutely love Rocky. As you should. As everyone should.
I do most my reading by listening as well and the audiobook to this was great! Really enjoyed it.
Just started it yesterday after seeing it mentioned a bit lately.
I preferred the audiobook as well. Rocky speaks in music, and hearing his dialogue rather than reading it was more effective in my opinion.
I am one of the few that didn’t get this book at all. I thought The Martian was fantastic, but was annoyed at myself for persevering to finish this one.
I enjoyed reading this, about the same as The Martian, but something about his writing style just irks me. I think possibly it’s that he actually doesn’t use enough words in places, and I need more description to go with the action. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s a bad book or anything like that, I just wanted there to be a bit more meat in it.
I’m about halfway through, quite entertaining. I saw it’s going to be adapted to a movie.
