I’ve noticed that the system takes a lot of RAM. How do I free some up?

Edit: a reboot fixed it

There is no need to free up some RAM. Empty RAM is wasted RAM. It is perfectly normal for Android to use it and it is an OS that is very efficient in doing so. If you not experience any unusual behaviour on your device, you should not worry.

The exception, of course, is when you’re constantly running at 100% and your system starts slowing down.

I can only use one app at a time as anything in the background is killed

My phone doesn’t have a lot of free ram on boot. With nothing but background processes I have about 100mb free.

What I wanted to say is that Android handles RAM by itself and there is not much you can do about that. This also means that 100 MB free on start up is not necessarily a bad thing.
I see however that being only able to have one app active is annoying and might be a problem.

I am not an Android developer so I don’t want to give you false hopes, but we would need much more information to help you. Asking for the option to free RAM might hint that we are dealing with an xy problem.

So, what device are you running, which version of LineageOS, what apps are you running? Have you already tried to disable the apps battery optimization etc.

Ok so now my phone is showing 50% ram usage and apps are working fine without crashing.

For content, I’m on Lineage 21 and my phone has 3gb of ram. This is fairly perplexing and it did not happen on Lineage OS 20
