The only people that are surprised by this are the people they bribed.

Well the state doesn’t want it, nor do the people, the ruling government, the native tribes, etc. Canada seems adamant about sticking a time bomb in some of the largest freshwater lakes in the world though. I think after 100+ years of industrial pollution in the state we’ve had our fill and they should just drop it.

The company advocating for this line is also responsible for the largest oil leak in Michigan history, wasn’t too long ago either: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalamazoo_River_oil_spill

It always baffles me the language different entities use…

The title very much gives the impression it’s more of a “they THINK it is, but since property lines and offices specifically to keep track of properties don’t exist there’s know way to find out”

Like a Ryan George pitch meeting or something. “well there’s literally no way if knowing so whoopsie!”

The ONLY thing to do is determine exactly if it is, and if it is, all work stops, anything moving through it stops, the company is fined out the ass, forced to move their shit and clean up the original site to perfection, repay the owners for use of the land, and a probationary period where if it happens again the penalties are even more harsh.

And that’s a slap on the wrist for what an individual person would get for doing something like this on someone else’s land. In some states they just shoot you the moment you step over the property line and as long as the shooter is white, they can be certain they won’t face immediate consequences.
