I never considered we’d win the rest of our games, but I didn’t think we’d have dropped them at Villa and in that fashion.
I don’t know what happened between halves, but the 2nd half was horrible. Credit to Villa who looked up for it
always preferred the conti cup anyway
After sleeping on it I feel a lot better. Okay, we really screwed the pooch and this game may have lost us the title. But it was against 4th placed villa, not 14th placed palace. We should have won, it doesn’t excuse that piss poor second half performance. What the fuck did Arteta say at half time? But we can still make it happen. We’ve got a crucial champions league game, and we have 6 games left in the premier league.
This is the guys chance to show their mentality. Do we crumble, like last season after the loss to Brighton? Or do we push the race to the final day, and show that we have continued to improve against the yard stick that is the best team in the world.
The stage of the season we’re in now is where we need individual brilliance. We have built our challenge on the strongest defensive core in the league and shared goals. This is a golden opportunity for one of our young players to take the next 6 games by the horns, and find a way to score the goals we need to go all the way.
I agree. I always knew it would be tough to win all of our remaining fixtures. And we all know City have proved time and again how irritatingly well they perform in this period of a season. And only 2 teams in the past what, 5-6 years have gone toe to toe with them.
My disappointment isn’t that we lost, it’s how we lost. Credit to Villa who kept themselves in the game, but although their defence was erratic and they were wasteful in front of goal, Liverpool were on the front foot the whole game. Crystal Palace also defended exceptionally well.
But, you’re right. This is where the lads need to shake off the loss and pick up from where they left off. The groundwork has been set since January. We’ve seen their fortitude against Porto, City and Bayern inn recent weeks. There’s no reason they can’t push on and challenge until the final match day.
2nd half is in the bottom 3 performances of the season.
The only good thing about this fixture congestion is that we have to move on to Bayern regardless. Here’s hoping the boys can clear their heads quick. COYG
Brighton could be hard for City, maybe.
I want to be furious but I lack the energy.
What absolute rubbish. It’d be alright if it felt like we tried to fight back but it seriously looked like arsenal the relegation candidates out there in the second half. In fact, I’ve watched a few games from the bottom 3 in the last month and I’d say mostly they look better.
I’m not rewatching anything from this game any time soon so this could be a really stupid take incoming - why the fuck was an attacking midfielder the only player to make it back for the second goal.
Yeah, I want to be positive, but I’m tired and about to go to bed.
I almost want to say we’ve been in such blistering form so there are positives to look forward to, but the performance was just shit. There was no fight or urgency, even defending from the 3 corners or so in a row. It made it feel like them going in was inevitable.
Yep. The positive is that there are 6 games left to play. In saying that, I’m off the opinion that we always needed to be perfect to win the league. I think expecting city to drop points in the run in is a fools errand. All we can do is hope.
Well fuck.
Unai’s revenge.
at least watkins is on my fpl
Might as well give the title to city now. They have a much easier run-in than you guys and Liverpool
You’re not incorrect but we have nothing if not hopeless optimism (after sleeping on it)
I can see why you feel this way. It almost feels inevitable now. All we can do now is look forward and hope we remain competitive until the last day because anything can happen still
