I’ve been trawling the charity shops recently but Blu-rays are coming up short. Usually the mass market films everyone already owns.

However, this week I picked up Free Fire from CEX (£1.50) cracking little film, and managed to find Shazam! from a charity shop for just £1.

How are you searches going?

Some more pick ups for July. Horrible weather stops me from working so I can visit the local area and raid the charity shops.

Who doesn’t like Mrs Doubtfire and the extras sound fairly impressive.

King Skull Island I haven’t seen since release but I remember enjoying it a lot. I just didn’t like where the franchise went afterwards.

Skull Island is the best of the recent American kaiju or monster movies. When a director can sneak in a reference to Cannibal Holocaust in a mainstream movie that’s a plus in my eyes.

I double checked the CEX app and Skull Island is 50p cheaper in store but who cares, it’s for charity. 😁

So following on from previous comments, I was doing a few chores and decided to swing into a charity shop on the way home.

Slim pickings but I did get this box, posed next to a Bioshock steelbook I also bought (which amused me because I couldn’t tell how much was damage and how much was part of the design).

It was £2.50, lowest price online is £3.25 but I also wouldn’t have realised this was a thing if I hadn’t stumbled across it. My uncle is big WW2 aficionado, so I’ll be throwing this into his birthday presents. Everyone wins.

Bioshock steelbook goes for about £4 on eBay and most of the damage seems deliberate.

Also a test of taking image hosting off Feddit.uk, so if you see it let me know.

I can see the image and I love that Bioshock design. It’s ironic because I’ve seen the old green special Terminator 2 VHS boxes that have now gone rusty with age.

        Cheers.

From what I can tell, each steelbook is individually weathered, which is quite something. Not sure you could get that greenlit today.

Yeah, that’s a really nice set. I am trying to not collect VHSs at the moment, but that’s tempting. The rust almost adds to the character.

My house is so small, I don’t have any VHS although back in the day I had some lovely box sets.

All my DVDs are in cd wallets. The blurays are in binders with their inlays. The only ones that get to survive intact are 4Ks and any Blu-ray or DVD that’s in special packaging or means something special to me so it’s kept as is.

            Ah yes, that’s tricky.

I have quite a bit of storage but I want to keep my display shelf space restricted - everything is going to have to earn it’s place. I did once have a more maximalist approach to collecting but it just means I ended up with a lot of terrible films. I see the photos of shelves of 10s of thousands of discs and hauls where people have blind bought pretty much everything a releaser has put out but it just proves to be that a carefully curated collection may be more my bag these days.

I am measuring up the prospective shelving (still got lost of my collection in boxes after moving) and there does seem a space on top for some nice looking VHS boxes. Dammit.

Thanks for this, I’ve pinned it.

It does remind me to do more checking of charity shops - they seem to have better luck in the US but you never know what’s lurking on the shelves if you don’t check.

Right, I need to photograph a few purchase and I’ll be back.

I remember the Reddit posts which drove me green with envy. Such great films for just a few dollars including 4K releases as well. Here in the UK I just find the same old big blockbuster films that I’ve already got or have no interest in.

No worries for creating a post. I thought I would try and be more creative than just a reader and lurker.
