Hi there, i recently got 50 NFC tags and these things are amazing for making shortcuts and the like, so i need any ideas and uses you guys already have for these!

I currently use one for my Bluetooth headphones to connect, one on my work phone for call forwarding, one for my battery charger to set an alarm and one on my washing machine to set a timer for when it’s done.

Any ideas are appreciated!

I remember seeing a YouTube video where a dude set up a jellyfin or Plex integration so when he scanned a specific tag a specific film played. He made it for his kids and wrapped the tags in the DVD cover art so the kids know which one is which.

Oh yeah i did a similar thing to my father where i took all his favorite records and put them on a tag which leads to a youtube playlist of the record. Definitely convenient since the record player broke many years ago.

I am thinking of putting one besides each security camera so I can trigger private mode for say… An hour.

Or stick it in front of the lens so you have privacy for exactly as long as you want

The only NFC tag I currently have implemented in my house is for dismissing the alert for my dog’s meds, and that’s part of my chore framework so I can add a dismissal into anything that’s tracked similarly just by the naming scheme.

I’m planning in adding NFC tags to other household appliances to reset them, like my has_coffee_maker_been_refilled toggle or triggering a button_push event to zero the waste drawer on my litter robot. Maybe something for the appliance reminders until I get door sensors on them too.

Figuring out how to tie my tags to Tasker will probably make a world of difference once i finally get around to learning the damn program lol

But i do believe tying tags to work with appliances is their strongest suit!

Ope, I totally didn’t see the community, I thought I was on a Home Assistant one. 😅 yeah I have all that through home assistant, I’m just getting back into tasker again after I thought I backed up all my automations and didn’t.

I use them for infrequent maintanence like the filter in the attic, i tap a tag when i have changed that, same for car oil and a couple of other things. I get notifications when is time again.

I’ll definitely have to figure out a way to make annoying notifications that will pop every five minutes until i actually scan the tag that stops them, it’ll probably skyrocket my productivity lol, how’d you set it up?

If you combine it with a tag reader (ESPHome + ESP2866 or ESP32) you can make playlists to start playing something on your speakers. Akin to a jukebox.

Someone help me find the fediverse meme that explains all the buttons, including the fact that no one knows what the circled button does.
